Stella could dump 12-18 inches of snow on Fairfield

As Winter Storm Stella gears up to have a very serious impact on Fairfield we off you these helpful hints to make sure you and your familt are ready!!

The Fairfield Fire Department is preparing for a major winter storm. Now is time to get ready.  Storm preparation information can be found at www.fairfieldct.org/storm.

Include here are some key steps that should always be followed

Key preparation steps:

  • Locate your flashlights, portable radios and batteries

  • Charge all cell phones; keep them on charge when you can

  • Check your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors

  • Have 2-3 days supply of food and water

  • Make sure you have all of your medications

  • Keep your house warm

    During the storm:

  • Stay home!

  • Do not run gas powered items such as generators inside

  • Do not discard fire place ashes in or near the house. They must be never be placed in the garage, on a deck or porch, or near the home

  • Do not use ovens or stoves for heat

  • Check that the exhaust of furnaces and dryers to not get blocked with snow

  • Do not leave candle unattended

  • Use extreme caution with portable space heaters. Never leave them unattended. They must always be at least 3 feet away from combustible, which includes bedding, furniture, and wall paper

    After the storm:

  • Take it slow

  • Stay away from downed power lines

  • Do not overdo it with shoveling, take breaks

  • Dress Warm/Stay warm

  • Never put your hand near the auger of a snow blower
